Earned Income Tax Credit Reinstatement

Am I Eligible for Earned Income Credit?

Sometimes, the government will disallow an IRS Earned Income Credit (EIC) claimed on a tax return. When they disallow a federal earned income credit (EIC), the IRS will deduct the amount of the claimed deduction from your tax refund. If you owed taxes and used the deduction to lower the amount of your tax bill, the IRS will demand repayment of the deduction you made for a federal earned income credit. If this confuses you to the point where you’re asking, “ Am I eligible for Earned Income Credit?” then you’re not alone, and earned income credit instructions are often of little help.

The government often rejects an IRS Earned Income Credit (EIC) because they lack proof or there was an error in the filing. Related issues, like Head of Household or child care credit, may also affect an Earned Income Tax Credit claim. However, the IRS may reinstate an Earned Income Tax Credit if the required proof is provided or other issues are resolved. Earned Income Credit instructions describe this, but again, they are of little help.

An IRS Earned Income Credit reinstatement must be requested using the proper forms and filing processes. While the IRS makes the final decision on a federal Earned Income Credit, the tax professionals at FSI Tax™ are experienced in completing, filing and following up with EIC reinstatement requests and will work diligently on your behalf.
